Spikeout is a fully-3D beat 'em up which takes place in huge and sprawling stages – split into sections called Areas, further divided into little segments.

In downtown Diesel Town in the USA, the city's young gangsters, harbouring unleashed anger, form small and large groups known as 'teams'.
Then, Team 'Inferno' suddenly appears and quickly takes over the town with its overwhelming power, numbers and elaborate strategy.
The leader of Inferno, called 'Big Boss', who felt a strong sense of discomfort and fighting spirit at the words 'the four strongest people in this city' uttered by the team, who never gave up their resistance to the end, planned to target Team 'Spike' for 'complete domination'.
